Changing Lives Exponentially

Homebound Missions is involved in a campaign to raise money to build houses for families in Haiti.  These are not just any houses, they are prefab houses made right in Haiti (creating jobs), designed for cost effective building and safety.  Each house costs $2,500.00 to provide.  This is part of the ;>Heartline Ministries campaign to raise $300,000.00 for rebuilding Haiti.

HM’s has offered a $5,000.00 matching grant to help motivate people to contribute to this very worthwhile and close to our hearts need.  As you know Heartline is one of the organizations that we source with fabric, sewing school supplies, and birth center (medical) supplies.  We are truly invested in this organization because they desire to truly change lives in Haiti, and not create dependency.

Since making our offer to do a matching grant a very exciting opportunity has arisen that makes our matching grant just over the top.  If you follow the Livesay's Family blog, you will know that they have a 15 year old daughter Paige.  Paige is the reason they initially went to Haiti, and she serves at the Women’s Center as a translator and Doula for laboring women.  She cares very deeply for these people.

Paige decided to do a half marathon as a way to raise money for this campaign and set a goal to raise           $ 6,500.00, as she thought this was a challenging yet reachable goal.  Little could she have imagined that in 30 minutes, yes you read that correctly, within 30 minutes of posting she had reached her goal 100%.

MAXIMA S.A. the company that is building the homes was so impressed that they decided for every $2,500.00 donation Paige gets, they will match it with a free home.  This is where our match becomes a double match. For every $2,500.00 that Paige raises, she will also get a free house, then we will match it and she will get another free house.  Our $5000.00 donation is going to aid in acquiring 8 houses.

To read this story first hand got to Paige, scroll down to April 21, 2010.  There is a photo of Paige with a little boy.  She raised this little boy for several months bringing him back from the brink of starvation and then returned him to his family.   This is a story your children should read.

Another life changed

Tyler and I shared with you that after the earthquake resources came into Homebound Missions that we felt where significant enough that we could use them to forever change lives rather than just sustain our families.

Job Lira was able to purchase a Mitsubishi pickup truck for $2,500.00 and for another $600.00 will have it turned into a taptap.  It needs a roof and side bars. He now has all the tools he needs to make a living and provide for his family.

“For what you have done for me, only God in Heaven will reward you that for me.  But I have only single thing that I can do for you, it is when I go to church I will pray that God bless you more.”  Job Lira

Job then wrote me to ask what to have painted on his Taptap.   He was looking for a scripture and something that said thank you to God or someone, so I suggested that he paint on it, “Thank you Homebound Missions”. I want him to know it wasn’t Tyler and I that did this, but rather a group of generous people who gave to him.

The scripture I gave to him is Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Haitians often feel God has abandoned them and so I wanted the scripture to be positive and full of a Father’s love.  I will never forget the day I gave Venise a Bible and she wanted me to read her favorite scripture, Psalms 60:1-6.  I wanted to cry and was choking to hold it in.  We are so fortunate not to feel God has left us.

Hyppolite Begins  Home Repairs

Hyppolite will begin home repairs soon.  We have sent him the $900.00 needed to begin the work. Hyppolite’s house collapsed and so the work needing to be done is extensive.  Presently, the family is living outside in sheet tents. Because he owns his home these repairs will provide very long term benefits.

HM’s has also paid the tuition for his children to go to school. Joveny and Danika his daughters were in school but their tuition wasn’t paid.  There son’s school collapsed and so he has not yet returned to school.  Now the family is beginning to move forward again.

More on changing lives

Jean and Venise are very excited about selling used clothing as a way to make a living.  I am preparing their first shipment now.  I have also been doing research on buying used clothing wholesale and have several leads that ship directly to Haiti.  We will bring details about this prospect in the June Newsletter.  Obenson’s family would also like to sell clothing.

Donations shipped to Haiti

April 27, HM's sent two more shipments bound for Haiti.  To Three Angels we sent 9 boxes of medical supplies and a skid of crutches, canes and walkers (393 lbs); For His Glory will receive 7 boxes of clothing, sheets, towels, personal care items, and toys (327 lbs).  Thank you, this shipment is possible because of your donations.

Donations Needed

We are still collecting and greatly appreciate gifts of kind, new and gently used.  Financial donations are also especially useful at this time as the following requests for assistance have been made:

  • Another $900.00 to complete repairs to Hyppolite's house
  • School tuition for Hyppolite's son
  • Funds for shipping to the organizations we source
  • Funds to ship clothing to our families and get them started in business
  • Job has asked for another $600.00 to put a roof and side bars on his taptap
  • Matthew is asking for funds to pay for him to take the SAT's for College.

Please consider making a donation through Paige to the Heartline Campaign for rebuilding Haiti.  This young lady is such a joy to watch as she ministers to so many at such a young age.  She is truly an inspiration.

See you at the picnic.
